NAI Cranes Installed Underground in a Salt Mine

A need arose for overhead cranes when one of the largest private companies in the U.S. built a new equipment maintenance area in one of their salt mines, located about 1800 feet underground. The large private company chose North American Industries (NAI) to design, manufacture, and install two 20 ton double girder bridge cranes with 30 foot spans. Catwalks were added to the custom design of the cranes at the customer’s request for easy access and maintenance. The cranes operate on 120 foot long runways which were also constructed by NAI.
North American Industries additionally provides the large private company with Crane Repair, Inspection, and Safety Partners (CRISP) services. Some of the benefits include periodic safety and performance inspections. Special training is needed in order for a crane company to work in an underground mine environment, and North American Industries has the experience and training required to handle such projects.
