Description: The customer creates Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) systems, and secure communications systems among other products. For the first three quarters of 2007, the company reported sales of over $10 billion with the majority of its business coming from the U.S. government and military.

Problem: The multi-billion dollar defense and communications company needed a crane manufacturer to custom design cranes that would work in conjunction with their x-ray imaging systems to scan cargo at international ports prior to coming into U.S. harbors.

Solution: North American Industries engineered the custom gantry crane structure with precision and rigidity. Special drives were used to minimize vibration and side to side deflection. The cranes had to be built to withstand extreme environmental conditions anywhere in the world. They were also designed with portability in mind so that they could be easily assembled and disassembled. The customized gantries are able to carry 16 tons of x-ray equipment. Today these cranes can be found in the Middle East and Asia.
